You may ask, “Why would I want to drink that crazy green liquid?”

Well the short answer, “Because I said so.”

No really, because it’s super good for you!

Consumption of wheatgrass for health benefits for came to the Western world in 1930 by Charles Schnable. Because of wheatgrass’s relative newness in the United States, very few scientific studies have been done to prove the effects of wheatgrass.

So what are the benefits?

  • It has been stated that one ounce of juiced wheatgrass is equal to 2.2 pounds of other vegetables
  • Wheatgrass is a great source of chlorophyll
    • Chlorophyll has been shown to be purifying, anti-inflammatory, and nourishing
    • Chlorophyll is almost identical to hemoglobin, therefore it is thought that it help to build blood in the body
    • Chlorophyll helps to improve tissue oxygenation
  • Improve the digestive system health
  • Prevent cancer, diabetes and heart disease
  • Cure constipation
  • Detoxify heavy metals from the bloodstream
  • Cleanse the liver
  • Increase energy levels
    • Wheatgrass has superior levels of vitimin B12
    • Most vegtables do not contain any B12
  • Provides a general feeling of well-being
  • Shown to be high in minerals
    • It is able to pick up nearly all the mineral in the soil
  • The most amazing claim of wheatgrass is that it is a “complete foods” which contains all other essential dietary nutrients, along with the enzymes to help assimilate them!

When growing your own wheatgrass it is ideal to grow it to a height of 8 to 10 inches

At that point it ready for consumption, simlpy cut the amount you want to injest.

Chopping the Wheatgrass

Generally you want to start out slow with just one ounce of wheatgrass, it is so healthy for you that your body is not sure how to handle it. Gradually you can consume up to four ounces of wheatgrass a day.

The next step is the juicing the wheatgrass…

You do not want to use the traditional electronic juicers, as they are not able to get the most out of the grass. The auger style juicers are better bets. We chose the manual version, so we are able to enjoy our wheatgrass without using any energy.

The last step is to enjoy the wheatgrass

Time to sow the seed…

Add one inch of compost to the growing tray…

Sprinkle a handful mineral fertilizer over the compost…

(Helps to make sure its super nutritionally packed)

Rinse the soaking seeds well…

Spread the seed evenly over the top of the compost…

Cover with a few sheets of your favorite paper towel brand…

Soak your seeds until water drips through the bottom of the tray…

Now its time to let mother nature take its course.

Now its time for seed germination……

We then need to rinse the seed…

To germinate these babies soak in water at room temp for 12 hours
